I wanted to touch bases about this weeks homework and a few issues we've been having in class pertaining to homework.
This week all the students need to do is search for and cut out more magazine, ad, or newspaper cut outs that they need for their collage portraits. Every student was still in need of more cutouts. We offered magazines to all students and sent home some with those who thought they might need some. Next Thursday we will be completing our collages in class.
On to the homework issue. For the last couple of weeks we've had quite a few students not come in prepared and/or try to pass off sketches they've done previously, or things they've drawn in their free time, as homework. Most of which, when asked, blamed not being prepared on their parents not showing them the email or telling them what they are supposed to do. Just so you parents know, we always speak with the kids at the end of class about what we will be doing next week and what they need to bring in. If there is a packet, we go over that as well. I personally, do not hold parents responsible for students of this age not completing their homework. They are old enough to ask you if they can read the email or ask you to tell them what it said if they do not remember what was said in class. If they have trouble remembering and find they never get a chance to check their email, they can write down what is said in class in an agenda. And if they don't/can't hear me or forget what was said, they can always ask me after class, at lunch, and of course, email or call me.
Students, if or when you read this, please be more responsible about completing your homework and being prepared for class. And, keep in mind that it is very important to be honest about whether a sketch was completed for a homework assignment or not.

P.S. I've asked once before, and I thought I'd ask again. Is there anything we haven't covered, that a student would like to do in class. We have two weeks that I can be flexable on if there is something students would like to repeat, learn more about or try for the first time. A style, medium or technique... etc
